主讲人简介

Alice Deignan is the head of School of Education and professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Leeds, UK. Alice is on the editorial boards of the journals Metaphor and Symbol, Annual Review of Cognitive Linguistics and Empirical Language Research. She is also the co-editor of Metaphor and the Social World. Alice has also worked as a lexicographer and author for Collins COBUILD. Alice studied theoretical linguistics at M.I.T. and wrote her Ph.D. dissertation under Noam Chomsky on syntax (modality) in the framework of the Extended Standard Theory. After that she taught and did research at the University of Vienna (Austria) and lectured at the University of Salzburg (Austria), the University of Paris (Vincennes) and the University of Hamburg. During that time she helped to organize the joint Linguistic Society of America and Summer Linguistics Institute at the University of Salzburg with the theme “Linguistics and Biology”. Being interested in lexis, metaphor and pragmatics, she uses large-scale corpora to investigate issues in these areas, using analytical techniques developed from corpus lexicography.
